Tech Wise Family Teaching Series
Ever feel like you can’t get your kids off their phones? Ever spend two hours on social media and feel depressed afterward or have trouble focusing? Does it feel like your friends are distracted when you’re with them? Then it might be time to get tech wise.
Whether you’ve felt your most important relationships suffer or time slip away amid technology’s distractions, we want to help you reclaim real life in a world full of devices. Join us for this new teaching series and learn how to put technology back in its place.
Choose Order in the Home
Pastor Andy Wood begins this series by examining the importance of technology in our lives, and how the order of our priorities — and technology’s place within them — matters.
Key Scripture
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” — Deuteronomy 5:6-7
Focus on Character
Pastor David Hibiske examines how parents must have the end in mind — to consider the character we want our children to have. Forming healthy technology habits will positively impact our children’s ability to leverage it for good and keep it in its place.
Key Scripture
Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” — Mark 7:14-16
Shape Our Spaces
Stacie Wood, pastor Andy’s wife, shares how we can shape our spaces — primarily our homes — so that technology is not the focus of, but an intentional addition to, where we live and play.
Key Scripture
The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. — Proverbs 14:4
Structure Our Time
Pastor Andy Wood discusses how God wants to give us the gift of rest through the Sabbath, and how honoring it is essential to experiencing a meaningful connection with God, so that you can work on things that are meaningful.
Key Scripture
Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do. — Deuteronomy 5:13-14
Stop Our Hiding
We all have a digital trail. If your device could tell your secrets, what would it say? Pastor Andy exposes our need to stop hiding behind our devices, and confronts three lies we believe about the impact of sin.
Key Scripture
Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. — Proverbs 28:13
