SEPTEMBER 7

Welcome back!

Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite and most simple prayers. It comes from Jesus’ brother in the book of James.

If you’ve been around for some time now, you’ve heard me say that one thing of many that convinces me of Jesus’ resurrection is the book of James! If you can get your brother to say that you are God… it’s very likely that you have come back from the dead. Just sayin’!

James 1:5-6 says:

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.”

God wants to give us wisdom in our lives. Today, let’s ask Him for wisdom for our lives and the lives of those around us. You might even imagine a decision you need to make or something you are trying to understand and ask for His wisdom.

Part of this request comes from the realization that He has the wisdom I need. When I pray this way, it’s important that I come at the prayer with a sense of awe and wonder. He is in charge. (Proverbs 1:7

I like to start this prayer by recognizing God’s place and mine. I’m praying relationally as to a Father and humbly to my God. Today I want to encourage you to pray His kingdom down. Pray for Him to move in our services at Echo. Pray that He would open people’s eyes. Pray that the Holy Spirit would touch the lost and stir in the hearts of His people in a powerful way. Pray that He wakes people up eager to join us for church today!

You can pray something like this:

Father, we recognize that you have the wisdom we need. We don’t come before your throne flippantly today. We humble ourselves before you the God of the Universe. Today, we recognize our need for wisdom in all areas of our lives. Please give us wisdom in our classes, in our jobs, in our decisions, in our pursuits. Please give wisdom to the leaders of Echo Church. I pray for my pastor, whom I love dearly, I ask you to give him wisdom to lead well. Help our staff and group leaders have wisdom as they do the work of ministry today.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

Thanks! I hope you don’t mind me having a little fun with you here 🙂 God is not lame. I imagine Jesus having fun when He was teaching His disciples to pray. And, if you don’t love me dearly, it’s okay, but you might go back to day four and pray that one again.

Have a great day!!

With love,

Pastor Andy
